Below we outline the core lessons that support your leaders to develop coaching capability that transform conversations and outcomes.
Foundations of Coaching
In this foundational lesson we cover the definitions of coaching and mentoring and how they differ from other support. We explore the rationale and purpose of coaching & mentoring, along with the role of coaching skills. We do this in a real world context of identifying barriers and enablers to coaching in an organisation.
Contracting and Ethics
Contracting is a hugely important to the coaching relationship. Here we focus why contracting is important, how to do it effectively and the ethics around it including conflicts of interest and confidentiality. This creates transparency and trust for productive conversations. We explore the three different levels of contracting effectively.
Introduction To Goal Setting
This lesson focuses on the role of goals in coaching as one of the core pillars of coaching conversations. We explain how to set them and the critical link between the conscious and unconscious min when it comes to goal setting effectively. Goals are what bring people to coaching conversations and they define the scope of the conversation.
Core Coaching Competencies
Aligning to a set of core coaching competencies provides a framework for growth. A coaching mindset is a growth mindset, one where we continue to learn, refine and stay curious. We introduce you to the three main coaching bodies who create the coaching competency frameworks and ethical codes. We also outline the main core coaching competencies.
Building Relationships
We go deeper into the unique levels of listening, observation and questioning techniques that a coaching approach uses. The core skills of listening, observing and asking questions effectively are key to enabling the people to gain new insights, options and make progress. We share different types of questions and explore the art of questioning.
GROW Model
Coaching models help us to structure our coaching conversations. They provide a framework for effective coaching. We give you a comprehensive overview of one of the most popular coaching models. We explain when and how to use it effectively and how to empower others with it. We provide you with an extensive GROW model question bank.
Feedback and Reflective Practice
Reflective practice is the foundation of professional development. It requires courageous introspection, an ability to shift between perspectives, exploring your own reactions and those of others.Feedback is a useful tool for reflection. Reflecting critically requires a step beyond your own assumptions. This lesson enables you to do that.
Values
Values are one of the core pillars of coaching. Understanding what values are, their role in conversations and how to help you and your team identify their values is core to being a great leader. Values drive behaviour as a primary motivating force and can give clarity to decision making. They can be used to resolve conflict and are a key to change.
Beliefs
Beliefs are another core pillar of coaching. They are a filter for our expierneces. We have empowering and limiting beliefs that are decisions we have made about ourselves or the world around us. They are unconscious and affect our everyday decisions. This lesson explores what beliefs are, how they are created and changed and how you identify them.
Introduction to Transactional Analysis
We introduce you to the philosophy of Transactional Analysis (TA). The lesson offers the philosophy of TA as well as two really useful concepts - OK Corral which focuses on our view of self and the 'other' and drivers which are the internal narratives which fuel or detract from our motivation. We explore what are motivated towards and away from.
Transactional Analysis Part 2: Ego States & Recognition
This lesson goes deeper into the philosophy of TA exploring ego states and recognition. We explore the positions we take in conversations and the impact that can have. We also explore the recognition we ask for and the difference between recognition for 'being' and recognition for 'doing'. These concepts offer significant insight into relationship dynamics.
Emotional Intelligence and Cognitive Behavioural Coaching
Emotional intelligence is key to self regulation and building effective, trusting relationships. Developing high levels of emotional intelligence is core to being a great leader as it enables effective support and challenge for team members and encouragement for them to develop their own emotional intelligence through cognitive behavioural coaching.
